- Offence
- In July 2015, after his birthday celebration where he drank an estimated 17 alcoholic drinks, he sexually assaulted a friend at his home. He later said he had no memory of it. The victim developed post-traumatic stress disorder and major depression, separated from her husband and became isolated from friends. Charged with three counts of sexual assault (September 2016); pleaded guilty in February 2017 in the Magistrates' Court of Victoria to one rolled-up charge of sexual assault. Convicted; 18-month community corrections order, 100 hours of community work and alcohol treatment orders.
- Outcome
- Reprimanded and registration suspended for three months from 22 February 2021. The Board had asked for cancellation and a three-year disqualification; the tribunal refused. VCAT rejected the Medical Board's request for cancellation, citing his move to Kalgoorlie (an area of high demand for doctors), reduced drinking, supportive professional references, prompt self-report to AHPRA and a 'low probability of reoffending'. He returned to practice after three months.
