Quick summary

Quick summary
An Innu mother was told to find someone to take her newborn daughter and go to a 90-day treatment program; she asked for the family program where she could keep her baby.

Full story

Full story
She told the Innu inquiry she grew up with addictions, was sexually assaulted young and has been in and out of treatment for 10 years. When she had a newborn girl at the Labrador Health Centre, Children, Seniors and Social Development wanted to take the baby right away and told her to find someone to care for her and go to a 90-day treatment program. She wanted the 28-day family treatment program at the Charles J. Andrew Youth Treatment Centre in Sheshatshiu so she could be with her newborn, but because she did not go to the 90-day program the department took her daughter.
