Quick summary

Quick summary
A Hungarian mother says her premature son was kept in hospital for three months with no medical reason and then placed in foster care.

Full story

Full story
Marianna's son was born prematurely in September 2024. She stayed with him in hospital for a month and then visited every day; her husband took over when she became ill. In November they found a small flag attached to the cot, signalling foster care or adoption. After that she was allowed to see her son only twice a month, and she says he stopped recognising her. In December, with no medical reason given any more, she was told he would go into foster care. The reasons kept changing: first moving between apartments, then her outspokenness; official papers accused her of being 'too concerned' about her baby. She went public in an interview watched by more than 150,000 people and sought help from the Hungarian Civil Liberties Union.
